Friction and wear are intrinsic concerns in biomedical, consumer and industrial applications. Often the perception of a product is governed by its “feel” which is intimately linked to a combination of wetting, rheology and friction. Cambridge Polymer Group has developed unique methods for determining Coefficient of Friction, and can perform routine ASTM tests as well (D1894). Friction and wear is also related to surface morphology and we can perform optical or scanning electron microscopy, as well as AFM and profilometry when needed. Direct measurement of wear can be challenging, particularly in systems like modern bearing materials or the latest biomedical surfaces where survivability is measured in decades. CPG has extensive experience in accelerated wear testing and can help select the correct test for your requirements.
